Listening Beyond the Mind

It can happen in a coaching conversation just like that.
I ask, “What does it ask of you to take the step toward self‑employment?”
She looks up, falls silent, and whispers, “I don’t know. I really just don’t know.”
We slow down together.
She closes her eyes. Breathes deeper. Feels her body in the chair, the clothes on her skin.
Calm returns. Her face softens. Then I ask, “What does your heart know about this?”
Almost instantly, a subtle smile appears around her mouth.
“That I’m allowed to follow my heart. That I can trust myself more. I feel fire. Energy. I can let my head listen to my belly and my heart.”
Suddenly, clarity arrives—clear, grounded, and unmistakably hers.
A Different Way of Knowing
Many coaches recognize it: the tendency to resolve everything from the head.
Yet the mind doesn’t always have access to what’s truly needed.
Transformational Presence invites you to include other forms of intelligence:
· The belly, which lets you feel what is true in the moment.
· The heart, which connects you to a deeper, more intuitive wisdom.
All it takes is presence. Attention. A willingness to listen beyond thought.
When we do, a deeper clarity opens—one you simply cannot reach with the mind alone.
A Reflection for This Week
At some point this week, pause and notice what’s happening in your mind.
If you sense doubt or recurring thoughts, create a moment of stillness within yourself.
Shift your attention to your heart or belly and ask:
“Heart/belly, what do you want me to know about this?”
Then stay open to whatever arises—words, images, sensations. The clarity and concreteness might surprise you.
