Let’s all be coddiwomplers!
A while ago, I stumbled upon the English verb "to coddiwomple" somewhere in a text. I had never heard of it before. When I looked up its meaning, I was surprised: "to travel in a purposeful manner toward an as-yet-unknown destination." Besides finding it simply a funny word, I was also struck by this sublime definition. For me, it quite accurately describes what it means to go through life as a human being.
It immediately triggered various associations in me, such as:
· It's about the journey, not the destination.
· "Purposeful," for me, this word stands for "being meaningful to others while serving the greater good."
· It's about consciously being and staying in motion.
· The destination doesn't have to be completely clear to still be able to and dare to take concrete steps in that direction.
· It's about moving forward with and in trust while detached from a specific outcome.
· It evokes the ability to wonder in me as well as forward curiosity.
Let’s all be coddiwomplers!
Take a moment to pause; what associations do this word and its definition evoke in you?
· What catches your attention in that?
· And what does that ask you to learn or practice (more)?
· What is your first step in this?
Take these thoughts and questions with you this week or during this summer period and notice what they bring you.
I wish you much joy!
P.S.: ShiftsHappen is taking a summer break. The next TFTW will be sent on Sunday, 31 August. Enjoy the summer!
