Everything is energy in motion
You may have heard the phrase "everything is energy in motion" or words to that effect. But what is its relevance to everyday life?
Energy never stands completely still - it is either expanding or contracting, growing or disintegrating. Within this, everything has a rhythm and a pattern. The movement of becoming larger or smaller happens in everything in your life, in your work, in projects you undertake, and also in your personal life.
For example, when I look at my work, I see a clear shift over the past five years towards more online work, especially during the Corona period. A noticeable movement has been towards more physical workshops and training sessions in the past two or three years.
I adjust my workshops and programs by continuously tuning in to what wants to happen. From fully physical (2018 – 2020) to fully online (2021) to hybrid with two physical days (2022) to hybrid with four physical days (2024), I move with what is unfolding. I partner with and do not row against it. Being consciously aware of the rhythms and patterns around you can help you make decisions more easily and experience more joy.
What is currently growing or shrinking in your life or work?
Is it perhaps a feeling that is getting stronger or weaker, maybe fear of something or enthusiasm? Or is it the importance of something that is increasing or decreasing? Or do you notice that more and more people are getting involved in your project or supporting you, or is the interest decreasing? Or is something else growing and getting stronger or slowly diminishing and weakening?
The more you pay attention to this constant movement of energy and broaden your perception and listening, the more receptive you become to the messages that accompany this movement. And you can choose to move with this movement and even collaborate with it. It is important to postpone or preferably let go of your judgment about this movement and accept what is. This does not mean that you necessarily have to 'like' it, but fully acknowledge that this specific movement is happening.
It often also requires letting go of or using a form differently. For example, I find working online with groups incredibly enjoyable and powerful. Each participant can participate in exploratory exercises in the comfort and safety of their environment, which supports the outcome. Nevertheless, I increasingly feel that there is a preference for meeting physically, and I am invited to reduce online work.
If you take a step back and look at your life, at work or privately, what is growing or decreasing?
To gain more clarity about what this means for you, I invite you to consider the following four questions. Let the answers come to you; you don't have figure things out. Let the answers reveal themselves to you.
1. What feels important to pay attention to in that pattern of growth or shrinkage? What draws your attention?
2. What is the message and/or invitation for you in this?
3. And from that message or invitation: Who are you being asked to be? In other words, what qualities are you being asked to bring to the forefront? Maybe you are being asked to be brave, or creative, or open and vulnerable? Or firm and autonomous? Another way to ask this question is: what role are you being asked to take on (more)?
4. And from this awareness of who you are being asked to be, what are you being asked to do? What is your first step? This is not about an extensive action plan, but a first manageable step.
Take this insight with you in the coming weeks, take that first step, and see what it brings you.
I wish you much joy!
